Meet Mr. Machen
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Roy Walter Machen III, and I have had the privilege of teaching at Augusta Independent Schools for the past 17 years. While being a part of this school, I have also taken part in some extracurricular activities such as Academic Team coach, A-Town Archery coach, tennis coach, Junior High and High School Volleyball coach and bus driver. I have thoroughly enjoyed being a member of this school that has become my extended family.
As a child, I have walked along side my father many times up and down the hallways of this building. My father, Roy Machen II, is a former principal, teacher, and guidance counselor of this school. Being a fifth-generation teacher from my father's side, it wasn't much of a surprise for me to also become a teacher. However, it has been an extraordinary honor to be able to come back to Augusta to fulfill this walk in my life.
I am the only son of Roy W.& Lois Machen II. I attended Augusta Elementary School from 1978-1986, and then continued my education at Bracken County High School where I graduated in 1989. I acquired my Bachelor's Degree in 1995 in Secondary Education grades 7-12 in the Social Sciences from Morehead State University. I completed my Masters degree in Secondary Education from MSU in the summer of 2011.
My passion is continuing to expand my knowledge in history. My interests include spending time with my family, especially my nephews, Phillip & Jed, and nieces, Fayeth and Madison. I enjoy working with technology and anything involving the outdoors, from fishing to camping to hunting. I am also a movie & music buff, my favorites being action adventure and classic rock.
My personal aspirations are to continue my education and professional development so that I can continue to help the students of Augusta Independent Schools achieve and succeed in their endeavors. It has been an honor to be part of the Augusta Independent Schools family, and I am truly excited about the upcoming changes & progress that our school is moving toward. It is going to be an adventure
