Augusta Independent Reminds Visitors of Tobacco-Free Policy

While Augusta Independent Schools has been a 100% tobacco free campus for the last couple of years, the start of basketball season and more visitors to the school presents a good opportunity to remind fans and area visitors of that policy.

“The use of any tobacco product, alternative nicotine product, or vapor product, as defined in KRS 438.305, is prohibited for all persons and at all times on or in all property.”

Earlier this year, the Kentucky Legislature passed a statewide law, HB 11, that closely mirrors the district’s already enacted policy.  The law prohibits the use of any tobacco product, alternative nicotine product, or vapor product on any school property or at a school event and requires local school boards to enact tobacco-free policies if they haven’t previously done so.

Visitors attending sporting and other events may use their tobacco products at the street parking along Bracken Street or on the sidewalk along 2nd Street, both of which are not school property.  Gathering near doorways and entrances to use tobacco products is prohibited.
