On Friday, November 08, Augusta Independent School hosted a Veterans Day program to recognize those who have served to defend the freedoms of our great land.
Principal Robin Kelsch started the event by welcoming all in attendance. Representatives from the Middle & High School participated in the America’s White Table story representing the MIAs & POWs. The kindergarten through second grade classes led all in attendance in the Pledge of Allegiance. The school band, under the direction of Scott Brawner, played “The Star-Spangled Banner.” The school choir performed “God Bless the USA,” and the band performed “Armed Forces on Parade.”
Augusta and Maysville native Heather French Henry was on hand to speak to the veterans, students and guests. Principal Kelsch recognized each veteran in attendance and presented them with a Veterans Day tumbler & Certificate of Recognition for their service.
As the program came to a close, the second thru fifth grade classes led those present in singing My Old Kentucky Home. After a moment of silence to remember our fallen soldiers, Assistant Principal Brandi Brewer thanked all the veterans in attendance and asked that everyone view the slideshow of veterans.
