At the April Board of Education meeting, board members approved the hiring of a school resource officer for the 2019-2020 school year.

Ken Fuller, a former officer with the Maysville Police Department, has joined the Augusta Police Department.  Beginning next school year, he will split his time between the city and the school district.  Fuller is expected to be in the district approximately three days a week.

“Not only will we have the added safety and security, it will also give us an opportunity to have an authority figure at the school, building positive relationships with students,” said Augusta Superintendent Lisa McCane.   According to McCane, he will work with staff in addressing needs, assist with the planning and presenting of programs in the classrooms, serve as a positive role model and mentor, and act as an advisor to students, parents, and staff.

Joining Fuller in Augusta will be his drug dog, Anson.  The drug dog will be available for use throughout the county.  “Anson brings yet another tool and another safeguard to help us protect our students,” said McCane.  “We believe this partnership with the city will be a positive for our district.”
